报告简介:Interest in understanding the impacts of land use and climate change on ecosystem processes has emerged as a major area of research spanning the biological and physical sciences. Ecohydrology has emerged as a discipline that can play an important role in identifying feedback loops between vegetation and climate that can aid management decision making for both water resource allocation and environmental conservation.

This talk reviews results from research aimed at understanding the factors limiting the growth and survival of forests in the landscape of South-West Australia and potential impacts on watershed hydrology in a region facing a drying climate under all Global Climate Model (GCM) scenarios. The region experienced a major ‘step change’ decline in rainfall in the 1970s. Over the following decades this step change has been propagating through river flow and groundwater responses, which are strongly linked.

嘉宾简介:Keith Smettem presently leads the University of Western Australia Institute of Agriculture program ‘Water for Food’ and is a Research Fellow at Murdoch University in Perth.  Prior to this he was the Research Director of the State Centre for Excellence in Ecohydrology and Head of Environmental Engineering at the University of Western Australia. He is also the Founding Editor in Chief of the leading international journal ‘Ecohydrology’.
