报告地点:天津大学地科院16221报告厅

主讲嘉宾Dr. Larissa Schneider

主讲内容This presentation canvasses the value of multidisciplinary research in tackling the complexity of issues surrounding mercury use and emissions and, to this end, details the activities of the Mercury Australia research network (www.mercury-australia.com.au). The creation of Mercury Australia aims to advance our knowledge of the historical uses of Hg in Australia and current need for control on use and emission of this element, with particular attention to the need for increase in knowledge on the biogeochemical cycle of Hg in the Southern Hemisphere.  In particular, the network connects key researchers and facilitates working in the field, and aims to translate current scientific data into a form that can be used by policymakers and governments.

嘉宾简介Dr Larissa Schneider is an environmental scientist interested in understanding the role of past climate changes and human activities on the biogeochemical cycle of mercury. Her research focuses on the geochemistry of freshwater lake sediments to reveal long-term interactions between humans, climate and mercury contamination using the information stored in the bottom of lakes. This information sheds light on past climate changes, the role of human colonisation in the landscape, the magnitude of impacts from industry and other processes.
