RESEARCH

Overview

Our center’s research focuses on the mechanisms of the feedback and evolution of ecohydrology, their effects on water resources, and the adaptive management and utilization strategies under the global change. Our research fields cover surface water hydrology, soil hydrology, and subsurface hydrology in the earth’s critical zone (from vegetation canopy to aquifer bottom), along with other disciplines (e.g., atmosphere, land surface vegetation, and nutrient migration and transport). The integration system of the water resources-socioeconomic-ecological environment is also our concern. Our study is devoted to providing solutions to hydrological and water resources problems related to ecosystem and environment evolutions at regional and global scales. We warmly welcome outstanding researchers to join our center. Students are also encouraged to apply for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in our center.

Since the establishment, our center has undertaken more than ten scientific research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program of China. More than 40 papers have been published in top academic journals in the fields of hydrology, water resources, ecology, and environment. These researches establish new ways to reveal the vegetation-soil-hydrology co-evolution, parameterize soil water models, and describe bedrock fissure water dynamics at micro and macro scales. Those studies have made significant contributions to understand ecological water consumption and maintenance in regions, such as the coastal wetlands around the Bohai Rim, karstic areas of Southwest China, and arid regions of Northwest China.

Currently, there are six faculty members and ~ 20 M.S. and Ph.D. students in our center.
