Research Overview

The School of Earth System Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "SESS") perseveres in focusing on the frontiers of science and national needs, strengthening forward-looking deployment and platform construction, promoting cross-integration and source innovation, bringing together scientific research teams, creating scientific research peaks, and striving to become an important base which is capable to undertake scientific research projects to solve major global and regional ecological and environmental problems, and to provide scientific support for national and local ecological civilization development.

Since 2015, SESS has received more than 170 million yuan in scientific research funding, with more than 225 newly-established scientific research projects, 48 of which are granted more than one million yuan (including 3 special projects and 20 special topics in National Program on Key Research and Development Project, and 10 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. SESS has been improving its science and technology platform, and has been approved to build the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Earth’s Critical Zone Science and Sustainable Development in Bohai Rim and National Critical Zone Observatory of Bohai Coastal Region. Relying on TJU Binhai Industrial Research Institute, SESS has set up an Academician Workstation and gradually built up a geochemical analysis platform and research technology support system which is comprehensive and integrated, open and sharing, efficient in operation, and world-leading, so as to promote innovative scientific research outputs.
