SESS Held Annual Workshop for Undergraduate Academic Advisors and Mentors

On October 14, SESS held the annual workshop for undergraduate academic advisors. More than 40 teachers attended the meeting, including Xu Yanping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, Li Xiaodong, Lang Yunchao, the assistants dean, Liu Yi,  the Department Chairman of Geographic Sciences, as well as academic advisors of 2020 and 2021, and mentors of 2022. 

 Academic mentorship appointment Letters were assigned to the advisor/mentor representatives. Liu Yi introduced in detail the original purpose of establishing academic mentors, related policies, the selection process of the academic advisors and mentors in 2020 and 2021, as well as duties and related considerations, and he put forward requirements and suggestions for the specific work of  academic advisors and mentors.

Professor Liu Jing and Associate Professor Wen Hang shared their working experience on behalf of outstanding academic advisors and mentors. Professor Liu Jing introduced how to educate undergraduate students to increase their academic interest in scientific research and encourage holistic growth, taking her daughter who is studying in university as an example. Associate Professor Wen Hang shared his work experience on how to effectively communicate with students and how to stimulate their academic interests during the last year. The participating teachers also had a lively exchanges on timely attention to students' thoughts and mental health, guiding students to participate in academic competitions and major innovation projects, guiding students to do a good job in curriculum learning, project participation and balance of interests and hobbies.

Finally, Xu Yanping especially emphasized the significance and importance of the work of academic advisors and mentors, reiterated the importance and support of the university and the college for the work of academic advisors and mentors, encouraged the mentors to adhere to the fundamental task of establishing ethic, strengthen discipline, and help students grow through guidence of ideology, academy and life planning.
