At the invitation of Prof. Liu jing, Prof. William E. Dietrich from the University of California, Berkeley, brought an online seminar entitled "Geomorphology:go to the field and learn how your Earth works!" on October 10th.
Prof. Dietrich shared how he fell in love with geoscience and the discoveries and interesting stories in scientific research. He said that observing today's world from the perspective of geoscience will reveal many new worlds that you have never imagined. Scientific pursuit may sometimes be hard, but more often it is infinitely interesting and rewarding.
After the talk, Prof. Dietrich had an in-depth discussion with participants on the study of earth sciences.
William E. Dietrich received his B.A. from Occidental College in 1972 and both his M.S. and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, in 1975 and 1982, respectively. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Presidential Young Investigator Award, the Gordon Warwick Award, and the Robert Horton Award, and G. K. Gilbert Award. He is currently Academician of the American Academy of Sciences, Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences of the University of Birmingham, and Honorary Professor of Tianjin University.
