In May 2019, the Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation with the Fredy & Nadine Institute of Earth Sciences of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. According to the memorandum, the two sides will carry out all-round cooperation in terms of joint research, faculty/student exchange and co-supervision of graduate students. In April 2019, Professor Liu Congqiang, Dean of ISESS, led a delegation to visit Israel, promoting the establishment of formal cooperation between the two institutes.

Funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, researchers from both institutes developed join research on "Quantifying and timing of Holocene rainfall variability of the Indian Monsoon".
