Tianjin University held the Conferring Ceremony of Honorary Professorship for Professor Donald L. Sparks from the University of Delware for his outstanding achievements and significant contributions in the field of earth sciences. He is also the 10th Honorary Professor in geoscience since the Institute of Surface-Earth System Science (ISESS in short) was founded in 2015. Prof. ZHAO Meirong, Vice Party Secretary of the University, and Professor LIU Congqiang, Dean of the ISESS, attended the conferring ceremony.
Professor Donald L. Sparks delivered a speech to thank the university for awarding him the honorary professorship. He would cherish this honor, and promote more international cooperation and enhance the university's influence in the field of environmental science and geoscience.
Dr. Donald Lewis Sparks is Chair Professor at the University of Delaware. Since 2009, he has been appointed Director of the Delaware Environmental Institute, a state-wide institute housed at the University of Delaware that integrates environmental science, engineering, and policy. Prof. Sparks is internationally recognized for his research in the areas of: kinetics of soil chemical processes, surface chemistry of soils and soil components using in situ spectroscopic and microscopic techniques and the physical chemistry of soil potassium.
