On 6th June, Prof. Robert M. Ellam, SUERC Director, Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh, received an Honorary Professorship from Prof. Hu Wenping, Vice President of Tianjin University (TJU).
On the conferring ceremony, Prof. Ellam said, "This honorary position for me is not just about what I have done in the past. It is about accepting a responsibility to be part of our joint future." He would like to play an active role in advancing the earth science as well as the development of the University. After the ceremony, Prof. Ellam delivered the University’s Peiyang Lecture entitled "Stable, Clumped and Position-Specific Isotopes: Towards'Isotomics' - the Isotopic Anatomies of Molecules". On the afternoon of June 7th, Prof. Ellam gave another talk to the graduates in environmental science and geology on "Isotopes: a very brief introduction".
During his stay, Prof. Ellam also visited the university's History Museum, Fengjicai Research Institute of Literature and Arts and Zhengdong Library. He thought highly of the university's culture and development philosophy, especially the focal point University library which, he considered, combined the best of historic Chinese tradition with stunning modern architecture.
