On 10th April,Tianjin University (TJU) set up the Institute of Surface-Earth System Science (hereinafter referred to as "ISESS")with an aim at moving Tianjin University towards a world-leading comprehensive university.The opening ceremony was held in theScienceLibrary.Prof. LIU Congqiang, Academicianof Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Prof. LIU Jianping, Chair of the University Administrative Committee, Prof. LI Jiajun, TJU President and Prof. YUAN Yingjin, TJU Vice President for Research attended this ceremony.
Prof.LIUCongqiang pointed out the importance and originality of the scientific research of Surface-Earth System science and hoped that ISESS would closely work with the School of Environment Science and Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, School of Sciences and other related schoolstogive full play to the multidisciplinary developmentof TJUand to advance the knowledge in earth science.
