SESS Undergraduates Embark on Field Excursion to Hong Kong, China

2026-09-29

From September 14 to 18, Associate Professor Ping Bo led 11 geography undergraduates from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts on a field excursion to Hong Kong. The team conducted academic exchanges with researchers from the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). They also attended the English-taught course Remote Sensing Image Processing, delivered by Dr. Wong Kwan Kit, Frankie, Principal Lecturer of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China.

The study tour turned learning into an immersive, on-site geography lesson spanning Hong Kong's mountains, coastlines and urban landscapes. Students hiked Victoria Peak, visited the Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong Museum of History, explored Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, rode the Star Ferry, and toured the City Gallery and Tai Kwun. During these site visits, they examined urban renewal projects and cultural heritage conservation practices.

SESS will continue to promote cross-regional academic exchanges, allowing more students to gain hands-on experience, broaden their global outlooks, and strengthen cross-cultural communication skills and global competency.
