On Sep. 29, China Education Daily published the special report Lessons for the Future, Cultivating Talent for the Future, which highlights Tianjin University's education reforms for future‑ready talent development. It spotlighted the AI‑driven graduate‑level course Mathematical Foundations for Geoscience, developed by Associate Professor Di Chongli of SESS.

Li Anji, a 2025 direct‑entry PhD candidate, shared how AI reshaped her learning experience: AI generates lecture outlines, facilitates classroom interaction and acts as a review assistant. Meanwhile, a multi‑tier knowledge graph maps interrelated knowledge and courses.
The course adopts a five‑tier knowledge graph covering 163 knowledge points, alongside capability and question graphs. It establishes a closed‑loop workflow: "knowledge instruction – case application – software practice". The AI platform produces comprehensive, individualized student profiles to support personalized instruction tailored for each learner.
SESS will further promote the integration of AI into education, innovate curricula and teaching mechanisms, and strengthen Earth‑system‑science talent development, nurturing interdisciplinary and innovative talents for the future.
