On May 7-10, the 4th ISMC Conference was successfully held in Tianjin, with the theme "Advances in Modeling Soil System Science, Earth System Science, and Beyond." This conference is hosted by the International Soil Modeling Consortium (ISMC) and organized by the School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University.
The conference featured keynote talks, oral presentations, lightning talks, poster sessions, World Café, and icebreaker activity. With nine sessions, over 70 oral presentations, and nearly 100 poster presentations, the conference facilitated discussions on the latest advancements in soil modeling, pushing the frontiers of fundamental soil science and its applications in Earth system modeling. This contributed to addressing major global challenges such as soil degradation, climate change, and sustainable development.
More than 200 scholars from 16 countries and regions—including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Russia, the USA, Belgium, the UK, Spain, and Austria, as well as from Chinese institutions such as Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University, Beijing Normal University, China Agricultural University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the academic event.
The 5th ISMC Conference is to be held in 2026.
