Topic: Modeling land-surface carbon and water fluxes in China over the last three decades
Abstract:
Process-based land surface models (LSMs)/ Terrestrial ecosystem models (TEMs) provide useful tools to estimate land carbon and water fluxes at regional and global scales. By driving several LSMs with observation-based meteorology and soil data, we estimated evapotranspiration (ET), gross primary productivity (GPP), and ecosystem water use efficiency (eWUE, GPP/ET) in China over the last three decades (1979-2012). The estimates were evaluated by compared with observations from flux towers, remote sensing products, and observation-based upscaling dataset. Using the ET, GPP, and WUE estimates, we quantified their spatial-temporal variations and discussed the potential drivers of their inter-annual variations. The study provide long-term and continuous land-surface carbon and water fluxes datasets for ecosystem and hydrology research in China, and is beneficial for ecosystem management under the background of climate change.
