Prof. Susan Waldron (PI) is Chair in Biogeochemistry and heads the Carbon Landscape Research Group (www.carbonlandscapes.org), funded (>£1.5M) by NERC, EPSRC, SSER & SNH. A geologist by training, her research has focussed on carbon and macronutrient cycles and her NERC Advanced Fellowship research developed expertise in generating and interpreting continuously-logged hydrochemical measurements to understand transfer of C and macronutrients from terrestrial to aquatic systems. She has now expanded that to trace C flow to the atmosphere, and using 14C as a tracer, and is in receipt of NERC support for 14C-dating of C species in and CO2 efflux from Greenland glacier meltwater, and to identify the source of in-situ CO2 in water bodies of different trophic status.
