Abstract: Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) imaging is a technique that uses a MALDI ionization source and mass spectrometer to directly scan the tissue sections and collect a large number of ion signals. Combined with image reconstruction techniques, it finally obtains molecular composition data with spatial distribution information. With the ultra-high mass resolution and measurement accuracy of FT-ICR-MS, new structural details can be discovered in the MALDI image analysis. MALDI-imaging mass spectrometry has been widely used in life science, biomedicine, pharmacology and other fields due to its excellent molecular heterogeneity, and has gradually gained attention in food chemistry, microbiology, environmental science. In this presentation, we will briefly describe the technical principles of MALDI imaging, experimental procedures, matrix selection and spraying, and discuss the feasibility of applying MALDI imaging technology to the field of earth sciences.
