Abstract:
Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) is one of the important processes of groundwater-seawater interaction in the coastal area and an invisible hydrological link in the global water cycle. Accurate assessment of SGD and associated solute fluxes to the ocean is of great significance for the management of coastal groundwater resources and the environmental protection and management of marine ecosystems. This talk will introduce the history and development of SGD (basic concepts, driving forces), isotope tracing methods, etc. Based on a typical case study, we will evaluate the important role of SGD in the process of water and material transport, and explain the potential impacts of SGD on the near-shore marine environment.
