报告摘要:The terrestrial Arctic ecosystem has historically been an overall significant sink for CO2, resulting in vast quantities of soil organic carbon (SOC) accumulated in the region. Recent environmental changes, however, have had a profound impact on the northern high latitude region, and may turn it from a sink to source of CO2, causing a positive feedback to global warming. While SOC in the active layer undergoes degradation that results in a significant vertical carbon flux across the soil-air interface, lateral transport of SOC from permafrost to waterways across the soil-water interface following permafrost thaw remains poorly constrained. This presentation will provide a snapshot on the yields of soil dissolved organic matter, the fate, transport and degradation mechanisms of the newly released soil DOM, and their inter-relationship with C-14 age and chemical composition.
