Professor Liu Jing of the School of Earth Systems Science at Tianjin University has been officially elected as a Council Member of the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) for the Geohazards theme, with a four-year term from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2030. The appointment was confirmed by UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) in an official letter dated April 15, 2026.
Launched in 1972 by UNESCO and IUGS, the IGCP is the United Nations' sole global initiative dedicated to geoscience development. As a Council Member, Professor Liu will play a key role in advancing international cooperation to mitigate risks from earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and other geological disasters.
