Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Jon Frampton from University of Birmingham visited ISESS

On October 15, Professor Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham University headed a delegation to visit ISESS. He is also Director of the China Institute. Dean Prof. Liu Congqiang met with the delegation.

The delegation visited the laboratories at ISESS and spoke highly of the development of the institute, followed by discussions on collaboration such as joint training of undergraduate program in geography. Prof. Frampton said University of Birmingham attached great importance to its substantive partnership with top universities of China and was willing to actively promote more cooperation.

Based on the long-term scientific research cooperation between ISESS and School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Tianjin University and University of Birmingham signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in January 2018, covering personnel exchange, student training and scientific research cooperation.

The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences has a renowned history for international excellence in research and teaching. Geology at Birmingham dates back to 1881 and Geography began here in 1924. The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences build on successes through research and teaching to address the challenges of the 21st Century such as climate change, oil exploration, renewable energy and resilience.
